Carol Park
The Parcul Carol ( Carol Park, and Freedom Park ) is a recreational area in Bucharest of about 36 ha, which from 1900 to 1906 on the occasion of the 40 - year reign of the first king of the Romanians, Carol I ( 1881-1914, a member of the Hohenzollern family ), was designed and built by French landscape architect Edouard Redont. Head of the Construction Committee was Professor Constantin I. Istrati (1850 - 1918). This included a national exhibition with typical buildings from various parts of the country and avenues, a lake and hills that were connected to each other through romantic way.
In the communist era after the Second World War, the architect Horia Maicu and Nicolae Cucu erected here a monumental memorial to the heroes of socialism, which was to serve as a mausoleum for the top functionaries of the Communist Party and as a landmark. From the park entrance creates a monumental axis with a step edge was built by the system and thus changes their character significantly.
