Carolina Chocolate Drops

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are an American old-time band from North Carolina.

Band History

The three band members met in 2005 at the Black Banjo Gathering know at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. Their common interest in the roots of country and rock music, she married and so they founded the Carolina Chocolate Drops and mainly played music in the style of Old- Time Music of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Four albums they took from 2006 to at independent labels before they Nonesuch got a record deal in 2010. Her first published by Nonesuch album Genuine Negro Jig reached # 1 in the bluegrass and 2nd place at the Folk albums; in the newcomer charts ( Heatseekers Albums) they were also ranked second

In 2011, she won the Grammy Awards with this album the award for best traditional folk album of the year. The follow-up album Leaving Eden was in 2013 in the "Best Folk Album " nominated for a Grammy in the category.
