Carolina Monarchs

The Carolina Monarchs were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League from Greensboro, North Carolina. Home of the Monarchs was the Greensboro Coliseum.

History

The Carolina Monarchs were founded in 1995 as a franchise of the American Hockey League. In the two seasons in which the Monarchs in the AHL were active, they missed the playoffs in each case, which they reached in the first season and 70 points in the second only 65 points. In 1997 were resettled under the name Carolina Hurricanes the Hartford Whalers of the National Hockey League to Greensboro, whereupon the new Hurricanes organization bought the franchise in the Carolina Monarchs Connecticut and relocated to New Haven, under the name Beast of New Haven.

Previously played in Greensboro Greensboro Monarchs already from the East Coast Hockey League ( 1989-1995 ). The gap left by the relocation of the Carolina Monarchs, crowded next to the Carolina Hurricanes the Greensboro Generals of the ECHL ( 1999-2004).
