Carolinas–Virginia Tube Reactor
F1
Decommissioned Reactors ( gross ):
The Carolinas - Virginia Tube Reactor ( CVTR ) was a nuclear power plant with an experimental pressure tube reactor, which was moderated by heavy water ( D2O ). The nuclear power plant was located on the Broad River in Fairfield County in the U.S. state of South Carolina.
History
The reactor was built in 1960. Holdings is the powerhouse of the Carolinas Virginia Nuclear Power Associates. The block was on 18 December 1963 to the network.
The power plant was built to develop a civilian heavy water reactor moderating, on a series to follow, similar to the CANDU reactor. The thermal power was 65 MW, the electrical power output was around 17 megawatts. The fuel was stored after the shutdown on January 1, 1967, place and thus the test program finally ceased. The license to operate the system was withdrawn. The power plant will be demolished since 2007.
Data of the reactor units
