Caroline Harrison

Caroline Lavinia Scott Harrison ( born October 1, 1832 in Oxford, Ohio, † October 25, 1892 at the White House, Washington, DC) was the wife of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison and the First Lady of the United States from 1889 until her death.

Her nickname was " Carrie ". She was the second daughter of Mary Potts Neal and Reverend Dr. John W. Scott. On October 20, 1853, she married law student and later President Benjamin Harrison. The couple had two children: Benjamin Russell (1854-1936) and Mary Scott ( 1858-1930 ).

Caroline fell ill during her time as First Lady from tuberculosis and died a few weeks before her husband lost the election for a second term. For the remaining months of Harrison's term of office her daughter Mary Harrison McKee acted as First Lady.
