Caroline Ryan

Caroline Ryan (born 10 October 1979) is an Irish cyclist and rower.

Caroline Ryan started relatively late with the competitive sports and was initially active as a rower. From 2005 to 2008 she was a member of the Irish rowing team and entered 2006 at the World Rowing Championships in Eton. During these years she was five times Irish champion and was the first Irish woman who managed to gain a victory at the Henley Royal Regatta and thus the Princess Royal Challenge Cup.

In 2009, Ryan became the pilot of visually impaired athlete Catherine Walsh with the Irish tandem one silver medal at the Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester and the disabled at the track world championships for the disabled. Because of this success, they decided to shift their focus on the athletic track cycling.

2010 Caroliny Ryan Irish champion in the individual pursuit with a new national record as well as the scratch. The following year she was also Irish champion in the time trial on the road and in the pursuit and in the 500 -meter time trial on the track. In August 2011, she put in Hull a new Irish record in the time trial for the ten miles at 21 minutes and 3 seconds, so they beat the existing record her teammate Ciara Horne of May 2011, at 22 seconds. In the UCI Track World Championships 2012 in Melbourne, she won the bronze medal in the points race. So she was the first Irish cyclist who won a World Championship medal in track cycling.
