Caroline Y. Robertson-von Trotha

Caroline Y. Robertson -von Trotha ( born February 22, 1951 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish sociologist and cultural theorist who works in Germany.

Life

Robertson -von Trotha ended in 1967, their training in hotel management with an award ( gold medal of the Oban Hotel Association) and came to Germany two years later. She studied sociology, philosophy and history in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe. With the support of a grant from the Peter Fuld Foundation she received her PhD in 1990 on " Ethnic Identity and Political Mobilization".

In 2004, her habilitation was at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Karlsruhe on " dialectic of globalization." In 2007, she was the rector of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ( KIT ), formerly University of Karlsruhe (TH), appointed Adjunct Professor.

In 1989 she was a founding member and from 1990 to 2002 Managing Director of the Inter -faculty Institute for Applied Cultural Studies at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). Since 2002 she leads as a founding director whose successor institution, the ZAK | Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ( KIT). In 2001, she was instrumental in the strategy paper Pact for Integration of the City Council Stuttgart.

She is married to the former Science Minister Klaus von Trotha.

Research

For Robertson - von Trotha research and practice areas include globalization and cultural change, multiculturalism and integration policy, cultural heritage and the theory and practice of public science.

She is also a member of a number of committees, commissions and bodies, including about the network integration Research of the State Ministry for Integration Baden -Württemberg, the impromptu EU Focus Working Group on Science and Culture and the Committee of Experts culture of the German Commission for UNESCO

Fields of activity

As the director of her ZAK is a major concern, to bring science to the public and to enable an exchange within the meaning of civil society. Research and teaching, interdisciplinary General Studies and Public science are based on the programmatic, which ( with speakers such as Alice Schwarzer, Andrew Keen, Daniel Domscheit-Berg and others) undergoes a reaction among other events, such as the Karlsruhe talks. In this sense, it acts in different areas and functions. A second focus is in the area of internationalization and intercultural understanding.

Currently, she is responsible for the coordination of the German network of the Anna Lindh Foundation. She is active as a spokeswoman for the KIT Competence area "Technology, Culture and Society" and in turn, as the spokesperson of the KIT person responsible for " Heritage and Social Change".

Next, she has held the board of several ongoing research projects, these include the DFG project " Public Science in Collaborative Research Centres " and the Interdisciplinary Center of Digital Tradition ( CODIGT ).

Finally, it appears as editor of three book series produced: Cultural Studies interdisciplinary ( Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft Baden- Baden), problem areas in Applied Cultural Science and Cultural Tradition - digital (KIT Scientific Publishing Karlsruhe).
