Carolyn Carlson

Carolyn Carlson ( born March 7, 1943 in Oakland / California) is an American dancer and choreographer.

Carlson studied at the San Francisco Ballet School and worked from 1966 to 1971 in Alwin Nikolais ' Company. In 1968 she won the International Dance Competition in Paris the prize for the best dancer. Mid-1970s, she headed the Paris Opera Theatrical Research Group at the Opéra Garnier. During this period he created works such as " L' Or des Fous, Les fous d'or and wind, water, sand, This and That and The Other.

After appearances at various festivals in Europe, she worked from 1980 to 1985 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, where their Blue Lady arose, the international acclaim and Carlson secured a firm place as the leading representative of modern dance.

She became director of the Swedish Cullberg Ballet in 1993. She works primarily with the musicians René Aubry, Michel Portal and Gabriel Yared; the jazz musician Karin Krog has composed for them.
