Carora

Carora is a town in the Venezuelan state of Lara. Carora is the administrative seat of the municipality of Torres ( municipality of Pedro Leon TORRES )

History

Originally lived in this region of the Native Americans Axaguas tribe, who had mingled with Jirajaras. Carora was established twice by the Spaniards. At first it did in 1569 Juan de Tejo. The Spanish village but had to leave shortly after because of the attacks of the natives. Juan de Salamanca, it has then founded again in 1572.

The Church of St John the Baptist was built in the early 17th century.
