Carpatair

Carpatair is the second largest Romanian airline based in Timişoara and based on the Timisoara airport.

History

Carpatair was initially founded under the name Veg Air in 1999 and began in February of the same year, flight operations with a leased from Moldavian Airlines Yakovlev Yak -40 from Cluj. In December 1999, the Company received its existing name to this day, as investors from Sweden and Switzerland accounted for 49% acquired.

Carpatair gained large market shares because it was one of the first airlines that offered international calls from the Romanian Transylvanian region, and can then be asserted to date against the largest Romanian airline TAROM. In addition, there is a close technical and organizational co-operation with the Moldovan Moldavian Airlines and contracts with companies such as Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.

Incidents

On 2 February 2013, operated by Carpatair on behalf of Alitalia ATR 72-500 shot beyond 300 feet above the runway while landing at the airport of Rome -Fiumicino Airport. Here aboard the plane 16 people were injured, some seriously. The Alitalia logo as well as their logo were still painted over it at night at the scene with white paint, according to media should the airline be protected against potential damage to image. After the incident Alitalia ended the cooperation with Carpatair provisional. The affected machine is intermittently stops at Carpatair in operation.
