Carpet Museum of Iran

Foundation

1976, the establishment of a carpet museum was tackled. Therefore, some of the qualified experts were sent for carpets in different cities and countries in order to acquire some pieces of precious carpets. The course took his time so that the opening was not present today's number. The museum was opened on 12 February 1978. The design, the collection and the architectural design of the building date back to Schahbanu Farah Pahlavi. In 1978, Dr. Friedrich Spühler, former director of the Museum of Islamic Art (Berlin), advisor to the Empress Farah Pahlavi Foundation in Tehran and helped with the construction of the first Persian Carpet Museum. The pillars that support the roof of the museum, are modeled after the warp and weft of a weaving frame ( loom ).

Exhibition

The exhibition area of the museum is 3,400 square meters. It consists of two large halls of handmade carpets and woven kilims. Usually, there are 200 rugs in the exhibition, even the masterpieces of Persian rugs that were made in the main centers such as Kashan, Kerman, Isfahan, Tabriz, Khorasan and Kurdistan.

One of the oldest and most important carpets, which is exhibited in this museum, dates from the Safavid period and is called " Sangeshku " carpet. Furthermore, seven animal rugs are seeing the " Sheikh Safieddin Ardebili " carpet, garden carpets and rugs Poland, these are some of the most precious carpets belonging to this museum.

The carpets, which are known under the name "Poland carpets " were produced in Isfahan in the 17th century by a Polish prince. The carpets were brought to Poland and so got their name. The material of these carpets was silk that was dyed with natural dyes, and was paperback with gold and silver threads. Of this kind about 300 rugs were identified that are scattered all over the world. Of these, seven were previously returned to Iran.

In 1949 found in a Skythengrab in Siberia Pazyryk rug, whose formation has been dated to 500 BC, and as the oldest Persian carpet in the world is true, is just as Nachknüpfung in the Carpet Museum in Tehran - the original is in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

Some carpets contain pictures from the Shahnameh and Persian carpets show the references to Persian literature.

The Museum of the corresponding library contains over 7,000 books on carpets. It should be mentioned that there is a collection of the most valuable books, publications and research pieces on Persian carpets in the library that are very precious. In the collection of the library, there are also films and slides on the manufacture of carpets and kilims.

To the art of weaving to get the weaving of carpets and kilims, the museum offers a range of courses: from the carpet weaving, designing patterns and repair of damaged carpets and kilims. At the end of these courses, participants will receive a recognized certificate. There is also a repair shop, the rich carpets of their owners repaired. This store was established at the request of collectors and owners of valuable carpets.
