The Carphodactylidae are a family of gecko -like ( Gekkota ), which occurs with about 30 species exclusively in Australia. The Carphodactylidae were described in 1987 by Arnold G. Kluge as a tribe of the double finger geckos ( Diplodactylidae ) and 2004 by D. Han et al. raised to the rank of a family.

Features

The Carphodactylidae are to be distinguished by some derived feature ( synapomorphies ) of the other Gecko -like. Your premaxilla ( Zwischenkieferbein ) is not grown together, the parietal bone is short and broad. The teeth are small and numerous. The species have two, rarely three lumbar vertebra, the Centra of the caudal vertebrae are extremely short. The tail is short, thickened at the base and the top covered with short, spine-like outgrowths. Also on the back there tubercles, which are surrounded by a rosette -like arranged scales show. The outer ear is large and is vertical.

Outer systematics

The Carphodactylidae are the sister group of legless fins feet ( Pygopodidae ). The two of educated, unnamed clade is the sister group of the double finger geckos ( Diplodactylidae ). All three taxa together as Pygopodomorpha called and occur exclusively in Australasia.
