Carpi, Emilia-Romagna

Carpi is a town with 67 408 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Carpi is located 20 km north of the city of Modena, is connected to the Carpi by a railway line and through the State Road 413, north continue both to Mantua. Carpi, together with Soliera, Novi di Modena and Campogalliano the administrative community Unione delle Terre d' Argine.

History

In Carpi was a settlement already in the prehistoric Villanovan culture. In the High Middle Ages, the town was fortified as Castrum Carpi.   • The local football club Carpi FC plays in the 2013/14 season for the first time in the series B.
  • Carpi was twice destination of a stage of the Giro d' Italia: 12th stage of the Giro d' Italia 1998, May 28: The winner was Frenchman Laurent Roux.
  • 12th stage of the Giro d' Italia 2008, May 22: It won the Italian Daniele Bennati.
