Carrie Smith

Carrie Louise Smith ( born August 25, 1941 in Fort Gaines, Georgia, † 20 May 2012 at Newark ( New Jersey)) was an American jazz and blues singer.

Life and work

Smith sang as a child in her father's church in Newark and joined with their Gospel Choir in 1957 at the Newport Jazz Festival. In 1970, she began a career as a professional singer at the Blue pianist Big Tiny Little; then she went in 1973 with Tyree Glenn on tour and played in 1974 with Dick Hyman at Carnegie Hall album " Satchmo Remembered " a. With the New York Jazz Repertory Company and then with The World's Greatest Jazz Band, she was more than once on a European tour.
