Carrigagulla

Carrigagulla (Irish Carraig at Ghiolla ) is a megalithic northeast of Ballinagree in the Boggeragh Mountains in County Cork in Ireland. It consists of two large stone circles ( Carrigagulla A or NW and SW Carrigagulla ), a five stone small circle, two stone rows and a staggered Oghamstein.

Carrigagulla A

The stone circle is 8.2 m in diameter and consists of 16 stones in situ and a staggered stone. Their height varies from almost 90 cm to just over 30 cm. In the center of the circle is a small rock boulder.

Carrigagulla SW

The stone circle has 7.8 m diameter 17 jewels and a central stone. 15 stones stand, two were fallen. As usual, the portal stones with something less than a meter the highest. the rest are graded according to the amount lying to the axial stone in the southwest. The two portal stones are radial to the circle. Several of the circle stones are flat on top, and two nearly cubical.

250 m to the north, near the River Laney, is a five- stone circle in D-form.

The stone rows

  • Carrigagulla NE is a stone row of three stones (two large, one small) of which a large stone have fallen.
  • Carrigagulla SW was a stone row of five stones, four of which are offset and are used as goal posts. A solitary stone needle forms the rest

The Oghamstein

The Oghamstein found during peat cutting is located since 1940 in the Cork Public Museum.
