Carroll County (Arkansas)

The Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. In 2010, the County had 27,446 inhabitants and a population density of 16.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. With Berryville and Eureka Springs, the county has two administrative centers ( county seats ). The town of Berryville been named after its founder Blackburn Henderson Berry.

History

The Carroll County was formed on November 1, 1833 from parts of Izard County. It was named after Charles Carroll (1737-1832), a co-signer of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. - Senator from Maryland.

The first white settlers in the area were William and Charles Sneed. The first post office was established in 1855, closed in 1856 and opened in 1867. The first courthouse was built in 1880 and the first newspaper, the Carroll County Bowlder was issued.
