Carrow Road is a football stadium in Norwich, England. The football club Norwich City, who currently plays in the Premier League, plays its home games from here. Today, it has a capacity of 26 034 covered seats.

History

The Carrow Road is the third venue of Norwich City since its founding in 1902. By 1908 Norwich competed in the Newmarket Road. After a dispute over the rental terms of the club in 1908 moved to the Rosary Road, along with the bleachers by horse and carriage. The stadium there was nicknamed The Nest in reference to the nickname of the club The Canaries ( German: The canaries ). Although The nest was extended again and again; the stadium in time had become too small for the needs of the association. On 11 June 1935, construction began on the new home at Carrow Road. After only 82 days, the new venue was built and it was held on 31 August, the first game there against West Ham United ( 4:3) instead. The first floodlit was built in 1956 for about £ 9,000; what the club then drove almost to ruin.

Since the late 1970s, the stadium was gradually equipped with new grandstands. First remodeling found in 1979 at the Norwich & Peterborough Stand instead. In 1986, the new grandstand Geoffrey Watling City Stand was opened. Built in 1937 Barclay End was demolished and replaced in 1992. The Jarrold Stand is the latest bleacher stand Carrow Road.
