Carsten Ramelow

Carsten Ramelow [ kaʁstn̩ ʁamɛlo ː ] ( born March 20, 1974 in Berlin ) is a former German football player.

Career

Ramelow had his first major success as a 19 -year-old amateur at Hertha BSC. In his first senior season at Hertha he brought it on, although only three appearances in the Bundesliga 2, but could with the Hertha amateurs the entry into the DFB Cup final against Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen (final score: 0-1) celebrate. This brought him into the limelight for the first time in German football. In the following season he was a regular for the Hertha Africans in the 2nd Bundesliga, but changed in 1995 in the strife to Bayer Leverkusen, where he matured as national team as a defensive midfielder.

Ramelow played up to end of his career 333 times in the 1st Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 22 goals. A title he could not win. He was four times German Vice Champion and twice runner- German cup winner. In the Champions League he reached the final in 2002 against Real Madrid and was defeated 1-2. With the national team, he was vice-champion in the Football World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea.

Shortly before the 2004 European Cup in Portugal Ramelow resigned from the national team.

After the serious injury of Jens Nowotny Ramelow was appointed as the new captain of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, but came less and less used. In March 2008 he announced his retirement from football, but trained to the end of the season still with the team and would still stood at Personalnot as a professional available.

In August 2008, it took Ulf Kirsten, coach of Leverkusen Regional team, returned three months after his resignation as a professional footballer. He should give the second team of Bayer Leverkusen as a leader stability, had to explain to his final resignation, as his persistent knee problems did not improve on October 24, 2008, however.

Private Ramelow has recorded its own CD with three songs in July 2004 with the sale and support a social institution in his home in Kürten ( Bergisch Land).

Ramelow is vice president of the Association of Contract football players.
