Carsten Richardson

Carsten Richardson ( Carsten Richardt ) was a sailor from Holstein, who was standing in the early 17th century in the service of the Danish navy.

Richardson took part in the second and third Greenland expedition under Christian IV. In the second expedition in 1606 he was captain of posts originating from Scotland Gilli Flower ( 40 tons ), but off Greenland in dense fog and ice contact with the flagship consolation lost and had to go back to Denmark.

1606 he was appointed head of the third expedition. This should start in the south-east coast of Greenland and search for the Nordic settlements ( Grænlendingar ). The two ships comfort and Greenland broke up on May 13 and penetrated the eastern coast of Greenland to the 64th Latitude ago. A landing on the coast did not succeed due to bad weather and dense pack ice. After drinking water supplies were running low and the ships were badly damaged by ice, Richardson decided to turn back. On 25 July, the fleet arrived back in Copenhagen.

Richardson later served as a diplomat in Poland and Hungary.
