Carter County (Oklahoma)

The Carter County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. In the census in 2010, the County had 47 557 inhabitants and a population density of 22.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ardmore.

Geography

The County is located in southern Oklahoma, about 25 kilometers, from Texas and has an area of 2,159 square kilometers, of which 26 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

Carter County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named after Ben W. Carter, a Cherokee and a captain in the United States Army.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Carter County 47.557 people in 18,579 households. The population density was 22.3 inhabitants per square kilometer.
