Cartersville is a city in Bartow County, Georgia. It lies on the Etowah River, near Lake Allatoona. The town was originally called Birmingham, but was renamed in 1846 in Cartersville, in honor of businessman Farish Carter. The place was known at that time for the Tumlin Indian Mound, a Native American grave mound ( Mound ). The construction of the Western and Atlantic Railroad was built here in 1848, a railroad depot, which led to the accelerated growth of the village.
