Cartier Iceland is a small uninhabited island in the Timor Sea, a marginal sea of ​​the Indian Ocean. It is located about 325 kilometers off the Australian northwest coast and 200 kilometers south of the Indonesian part of Timor. Of the Ashmore Cartier Islands island is about 60 kilometers away.

The nearly vegetation-free, flat sandy island is surrounded by a reef enclosed lagoon. Reef, lagoon and island have a combined area of ​​about 44 km ²; of which about 0.17 km ² on dry land.

The Cartier Island was mapped in 1800 and is named after the explorer ship Cartier. In 1909 she took the UK in possession. In 1934, she came under Australian control.
