Cartoceto

Cartoceto is a place in the Italian region Marche, located in the northernmost province of Pesaro and Urbino. It is 14 kilometers from the port town of Fano, in the hills, which are upstream of the Adriatic coast.

The birth of the village probably dates back to the Carthaginians, who were (264 BC), defeated in the Battle of the Metaurus by the Roman army and retreated into the surrounding hills.

Cartoceto is an independent municipality with 7859 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and is divided into several districts: Corsano, Sant'Anna, Salomone, Ponte Murello, Lucrezia and Ripalta. In the capital Cartoceto himself, who is also the seat of the municipal administration, currently live (31 December 2007 ) 422 inhabitants. The place is located at an altitude of 235 m above sea level and there by the geographical position where the ideal climate for growing olives.

Olives are cultivated since the 12th century around the place and since then the high quality of the oils produced regarded as the hallmark of the place. In addition, other quality products such as the autochthonous " Bianchello Metauro " and the Sangiovese grape grown for wine production. In caves ripened sheep cheese culinary portfolio of the village completes.
