Cartouche (cartography)

A cartridge in cartography refers to a map element which consists of decorative frame and title block. With coat of arms, icons, ribbons, plants or people and animals, they usually form an ornamental border of map title, author, scale, legend, and year of publication. They are usually inserted on the free surfaces of the map sheet as a filling. In particular, in the Rococo and Baroque cards were decorated with it.

When is a dedication cartridge is whom this globe or map dedicated (often a king or other ruler ).
