Carwitzer See

The Carwitzer Lake is a lake in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern.

Location

The lake lies to the east of Mecklenburg County in the Mecklenburg Lake District in the Natural Park Feldberg Lakes and the homonymous municipality southeast of the main town of Feldberg. In the south, bordering the Carwitzer lake on the state of Brandenburg. The lake is part of the water catchment area of ​​the Havel. Its eastern shore in places is only 100 meters from the natural watershed between the North and Baltic Seas.

Formation

The Carwitzer Lake is a glacial Zungenbeckensee that has arisen during the Pomeranian stage of the Weichsel glaciation.

Structure

The Carwitzer lake, with an area 3.95 km ² the largest lake of Feldberg Lakes of. Its about 2.6 x 2.3 km large central part is relatively flat and has nine islands (the island name from West to East: Hunter Werder, Goose Werder, beans Werder, Steinwerder, Boll Werder, carbon Werder, Elswerder and two islands off Conow ). The lake has the Isernpurt an artificial drainage in the Mellensee and thus the Baltic Sea. This was built from 1575 to 1578 to compensate for high water levels, which can occur during heavy rainfall. As water levels of about one meter below the normal Isernpurt falls dry. The shore on the northern part consists of meadows and fallow land, which is at about 100 m above sea level. Use

The lake is used for recreational purposes and for fishing. On the northeastern shore is close to the local situation Conow a campsite with a small swimming area. Fauna
