Casa da Música

The Casa da Música ( German: House of Music ) is a new urban concert hall in Porto (Portugal ), designed by the architect Rem Koolhaas and Ellen van Loon from OMA (Rotterdam), which was inaugurated in April 2005 and the same cultural institution with its three orchestras " Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto ", " Orquestra Barroca " and " Remix Ensemble " houses. We started the project in July 1999, officially with the proviso it up in 2001, when Porto was European Capital of Culture to finish.

The building at the Rotunda da Boavista has a minimalist, monolithic polygonal shape, the facade is made of white concrete and partly wavy glass windows. Inside, the architecture of concrete, aluminum and glass is partly covered with many different materials, including Portuguese azulejos.

The large rectangular concert hall is paneled in wood, on which a pattern was applied gold leaf. Its front side opens with a large wavy glass front of the city. These glass waves distort the one hand, the view, on the other hand, the sound is broken favorable.
