Casamicciola Terme

Casamicciola Terme is a town with 8159 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) on the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples. The town has a port with connections to Naples and Pozzuoli.

Tourism

As the name suggests, the town has thermal baths. A famous guest was Henrik Ibsen who wrote this part of his work Peer Gynt.

History

In 1883 Casamicciola was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake, where 1,800 people died. The neighboring Lacco Ameno was severely damaged; total of the quake victims in 2300.
