Casas Adobes is a census -designated place in Pima County in the state of Arizona in the United States.
Geography
Casas Adobes is 17 km north of Tucson between the towns of Oro Valley in the north and in the west of Marana, to the east is the Census -designated place, Catalina Foothills. Casas Adobes is thus largely in the area south of Cañada del Oro, north of Rillito River and west of the Pima Wash, which drains from the Pima Canyon coming to the western edge of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness. By Casas Adobes runs east from north to south, the Arizona State Route 77 Interstate 10 leads west to Casas Adobes along.
History
Casas Adobes is on community- free area, but is older than Oro Valley and Marana. Prior to opening up the area mainly by ranchers was used. As one of the first suburbs of Tucson, the area was developed in the 1940s. The name was given by a Casas Adobes arisen in the 1950s, construction area, which dates back to the contractor Silvio Nanini and largely consisted of large built with adobe houses in Ranch style. The area is almost completely built-up, now live in the nearly 60 -square-mile area of nearly 60,000 residents. The undertaken in the years 1997 to 2001 experiment, the area to incorporate a Town struck in 2001 failed after a referendum. It is assumed that the surrounding cities Oro Valley, Marana and Tucson will incorporate parts of the area.
On 8 January 2011, in Casas Adobes the assassination of Tucson, where the Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was seriously injured, committed.
Demography
At the time of the census in 2000 ( U.S. Census 2000) had Casa Adobes 54 011 inhabitants on a land area of approximately 58.6 km ². The median age was 39.4 years ( national U.S. average: 35.3 years ). The per capita income (English per capita income) was ( the national average of the United States: 21,587 U.S. dollars) at 24.230 U.S. dollars. 5.3 % of residents were with their income below the poverty line ( national U.S. average: 12.4 %). 20.9% of the population is German, 14.3% English and 14.2% are of Irish descent.
