Casey Bill Weldon

Will " Casey Bill" Weldon (* July 10, 1909 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; † 196? ) Was an American blues musician who was known for his skills on the steel guitar especially. He played 1927-1938 mostly together with other musicians, such as the Memphis Jug Band, mainly due to the record labels Vocalion and Bluebird a large number of recordings one. In the 1920s, he married Memphis Minnie, with whom he also recorded records.

He used a National guitar in the so-called Hawaiian style, that is flat on the lap, which is why he was also called the Hawaiian Guitar Wizard. His solos in this technique were emotionally and distinctive, they influenced the then-emerging Chicago blues.

His best-known composition We Gonna Move ( To The Outskirts Of Town ) skipped the then existing border between blues and jazz and has been was covered by a number of musicians, including Count Basie, Big Bill Broonzy, Ray Charles, Jazz Gillum, Louis Jordan, BB King, Leadbelly, Jimmy Rushing, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Witherspoon.

His nickname " Casey Bill" or " KC Bill" ( to find them on the labels of his early records ) is a corruption of Kansas City.
