Caslon

The font Caslon was designed in 1722 and is classified as a Baroque Roman type. It is often referred to as the first family with an English origin. Before the script is created, had English Setters writings from other countries, mostly the Netherlands buy.

With the Caslon ( William Caslon, 1692-1766 ) and the Baskerville ( John Baskerville 1706-1755 ) was reached new heights of creation of classical Antiqua. The Caslon is stylistically at the beginning of the transitional Antiqua (see Baroque Antiqua ) and is geared towards both Dutch masters, such as to the writings of Christoffel van Dijcks (1607-1669) and at the Romain du Roi, the writing of the French Sun King Louis XIV, which was developed by French scholars.

The Englishman William Caslon was the creator of the font and the Caslon type characters, in which the American Declaration of Independence was printed. The Caslon was also used in the first edition of the U.S. Constitution.
