Caso

Caso is a municipality of the autonomous community of Asturias, Spain. It is bordered to the north by Piloña, to the east by Ponga, on the west by Sobrescobio and all, and on the south by the province of León. The capital of Campo de Caso is located 65 kilometers from Oviedo, capital of Asturias.

History

To the Middle Ages

As almost everywhere in Asturias, is also found here in the valley of Nalón traces of settlement as early as the Bronze Age. Dolmen and hill forts can still be seen today along the river. The Romans had built here a major road that ran along the Rio Navia. There are still bridges and fragments of the road, which are used to today.

To Today

In the 12th century, the name Caso is first set out in documents the Archdiocese of Oviedo. It was only in the 15th century makes the community by opening up new iron mines to gain recognition. These mines justify addition to the livestock industry the wealth of the region.

The coat of arms

From the crest role of Oviedo ( Apuntes heráldicos. Heráldica asturiana y catálogo armorial de España, Oiedo, 1892) shows that Ciriaco Miguel Vigil has this coat of arms created by him registered.

Geology

Land

Limestone and shale are the dominant rock formations. The mountain ranges of: Carderu Sierra, Sierra Mermeja, Sierra Cortegueru, Puerto de Cotorgán, Sierra de Braña Piñuel, Sierra Pintacanales, Sierra Les Pries, Sierra de Cardenas, Sierra de Buceñao, Sierra de Pandemulesund Sierra Xiblaniella form an impressive landscape.

Rivers and Lakes

The Rio Nalon and several of its tributaries, such as: Rio Los Cuadros, Rio Calção, Rio Xuli Arrudos Rio, Rio Les Campe, Rio Rioseco, Rio Monasterio, Rio Borbuques, Rio del Ablanosa, valine Rio, Rio Coralon, Rio Pendones, Rio Orlé, Rio Enmedio flow through the community. The reservoir " Embalse de Tane " still extends into the neighboring community Sobrescobio.

Economy

" El país de la madreña " ( land of wooden shoes ) is called, this community not only because of your ongoing agriculture and forestry, but it will also show that the wood throughout the regional economy has always been important and is.
