Caspar Einem

Caspar Einem ( born May 6, 1948 in Salzburg ) is a former Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party. He was Minister of the Interior from 1995 to 1997, then to 2000 Federal Minister of Science and Transport of the Republic of Austria.

Biography

Caspar Einem is the son of the composer Gottfried von Einem and his wife Lianne, née von Bismarck. After graduating from high school in Vienna, and his degree in law in Vienna in 1971, he worked as a probation officer in Vienna and Salzburg, and then came across several stations to the Austrian oil company OMV, where he most recently, before his entry into federal politics, responsible for the business gas recorded. Currently, a president of the Austrian Institute for International Affairs, and Vice President of the European Forum Alpbach.

Caspar Einem is married and has a son.

Political career

In November 1994, a State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery was, among other things, for the public service. From April 1995 to January 1997 he was Minister of the Interior, then by February 2000 the Federal Minister for Science and Transport.

Since the formation of the coalition of ÖVP and FPÖ in February 2000, he was Member of Parliament for the constituency Regional Vienna Central West and Europe spokesman for the Social Democrats. By May 2001 he was also Deputy Chairman of the Social Democratic Group in the National Council. A dropped October 31, 2007 back his seat in the National Council and stated that he would withdraw from all political functions.

Caspar Einem is the author and editor of numerous books and a former President of the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation ( CEEP ), the Federal Social Democratic academics (BSA ), and the Austrian - Slovenian society. By November 2007, he was also president of the Association of Public and Cooperative Economy of Austria ( VÖWG ).

More careers

On 12 October 2007 was a known change to the Board of Jetalliance Flight Operations GmbH, which he left in late June 2011. Until August 2011, he has also held the board of the newly founded Austrian Business Aviation Association.

In September 2011 he was appointed Aufrichtsratsvorstand of Austro Control and will take over from Gaston Glock after.

Criticism

In his tenure as Minister of the Interior in 1995 Caspar Einem by Jörg Haider was accused in 1992 of the radical left-wing magazine TATblatt 4900 shillings and in March 1995 ( now already as Secretary of State ) donated 1000 Schilling. The first donation was intended for a printing press, temptation to support the magazine in a trial of Jörg Haider. When it became known that the magazine got the customary press subsidy since 1991, but it was also clear that the donation Einem was legal.
