Cassano delle Murge
Cassano delle Murgia is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,395 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Bari, in Puglia. The community is located about 27 kilometers southwest of Bari and about 28 north-east of Matera in the Murgia. Under the protection forest area near Foresta Mercadante is located ( about 10 square kilometers [ 1083 hectares ] ).
History
The name of the place which is due to a Cassius suggests that the origins in a Roman settlement in the area of Peucetians are looking for. Due to the location, possibly led a connection path between the Via Appia and the Via Appia Traiana from Bari, Taranto direction.
Traffic
Cassano delle Murgia is a little off the main through routes. Only the Autostrada A14, the Taranto and Bari with further access to the cities of the Adriatic coast and the Emilia -Romagna region is to reach quickly in about 6 kilometers at Acquaviva delle Fonti.
