Cassius C. Dowell

Cassius Clay Dowell (* February 29, 1864 in Summerset, Warren County, Iowa, † February 4, 1940 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1935, and again from 1937 to 1940, he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Cassius Dowell was born on a farm near Summerset. He attended the common schools and the Baptist College in Des Moines and the Simpson College in Indianola. In addition, he studied until 1886 at Drake University in Des Moines Art. After a subsequent law degree, also at Drake University, and its made ​​in 1888 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in Des Moines.

In the 1934 elections Dowell lost to Hubert Utterback. He then worked again as a lawyer in Des Moines. In 1936, he was able to regain his old mandate and remain after a re-election of January 3, 1937 until his death on February 4, 1940 in Congress. At this time there more New Deal legislation was passed. Cassius Dowell died of heart failure and was buried in Des Moines.
