Cast (Band)

Cast is an English band that was founded in 1993 by John Power, the former bassist of The La's, and Peter Wilkinson, the former bassist of Shack, in Liverpool.

The band released four albums between 1995 and 2001. Liam Gallagher described it as one of the few bands that he might, and cast was one of the few Britpop bands that survived the ending of the movement and after 2000 nor released an album. It has been speculated that the name cast from the last word comes from the only album by The La's. John Power said in an interview to the fact that the accident was.

Biography

Founder and songwriter of the band was John Power, former bassist of the Liverpool band The La's (eg: the miners ), which he left in 1991. After playing power, now as a rhythm guitarist and singer, first with changing line-ups, of which only Peter Wilkinson ( bass) remained as a permanent member. Was not until November 1993, drummer Keith O'Neill and guitarist Liam ' Skin' Tyson, the final line, with the band occurred in January 1994 in Hull for the first time.

Even before the band had a record deal, Cast played as support for Elvis Costello and Oasis. While the Oasis tour Polydor Cast offered a recording contract, and signed the band. The first single FineTime, which appeared in 1995 at the height of the Britpop boom, was a success. The follow-up single Alright reached in the UK even the top 15 of the charts. The associated album All Change, produced by John Leckie, was released in June 1995 and reached number 7 in the UK album charts. The plate was awarded double platinum and was the fastest selling album to date in the history of Polydor.

The quieter second album Mother Nature Calls was again produced by John Leckie and released in April 1997. The album reached # 3 on the charts, three of the four singles reached the Top Ten.

As the third album Magic Hour was released in May 1999 the Britpop movement was already in decline. Although the produced by Gil Norton album still reached number 6 in the charts, but sales soon broke one. The first single Beat Mama was the last top ten hit of the band in the UK. John Power himself believed that with the third album for Cast a chapter had ended.

For the fourth album John Powell worked with the producers and programmers Tristin Norwell together in search of a new Sound.Beetroot appeared in July 2001, but was unable to repeat the success of its predecessor.

In August 2002, the band members took a break from cast to work on solo projects, as it is officially called. The band had dissolved.

In June 2010, Power undertook a "Cast Acoustic Show" tour, where he played some cast pieces together with new titles, which he had written for a potential new cast album the year before. On June 22, it was officially announced that the band reconstitutes itself and has plans to work with new material. In November and December, the band took the occasion of the 15th anniversary of All Change a tour of the UK.

Cast released their fifth studio album, Troubled Times, produced by John Leckie, first 2 November 2011 as a download on pledgemusic; now it is also available on CD. On the album, the drummer Steve Pilgrim, who had made ​​a short tour in December with the band. The future of original drummer O'Neill at the band is uncertain, since it does not regularly can participate in recordings and tours because of obligations as a tour manager.
