Castalla

Castalla is a city in the comarca of L' Alcoià region, in the province of Alicante, Spain. Castalla is located in a mountainous area. Castalla is directly connected via the national road CV -80 with Alicante and Valencia on the A- 7 motorway. 2013 had 10,579 inhabitants Castalla.

History

The Castillo de Castalla (Castle of Castalla ) is a fortress that was originally built by the Moors. However, in their structure, it has a medieval design. The first buildings of the fortress built in the 11th century. Its special features include the Arab cistern from the 12th to the 13th century. The palace complex dates from the 14th to the 15th century and is almost a castle within the actual fort. Due to the increasing threat of piracy ( Berbers ) from the Mediterranean to the three-story Torre Grossa (Big Tower ) was built in 1579, which served as a crenellated watchtower.

The city rights were granted Castalla 1890 by the Queen Regent Maria Christina.

Economy

The economy is based on different industries such as construction, Möbelfrabrikation, textile industry and especially Castalla was known for the manufacture of toys and wrought iron crafts. Agriculture is characterized by almond, olive growing and viticulture. Today, tourism is another important source of revenue of the municipality.

Attractions

  • The restored fortress of Castalla located on a 780 m high ridge and its origins date back to the period of Moorish rule. The fort consists of three parts, the Palau, the Torre Grossa and the military base. Era: 11th to 16th century.
  • Ermita de la Sang ( Hermitage of the blood) from the 13th century
  • Catholic Church Església de l' Assumpció (16th century)
  • City Hall Ayuntamiento ( mid 17th century ), in the Renaissance style
  • Museo del Fester, in this museum are kept and shown the various regional costumes. The exhibition center of extras association also includes different costumes and suits that are still supported by the fixed operators of both parties today for the Feast of Moros y Cristianos ( Moors and Christians ). The festival is celebrated in the first four days in September each year, with the opening ceremony on 31 August in the night instead.
