History

Castanheira de Pera The exact origins are obscure. The first evidence the historian Manuel Sousa Coutinho in his História de São Domingo, after a village called Castanheira before the 15th century was born. The circle

Castanheira de Pera is the seat of the same circuit ( concelho ) in the district of Leiria. The district has an area of 66.8 km ² and has 3191 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The neighboring districts are (clockwise starting from the north ): Gois, Pedrógão Grande, Figueiró dos Vinhos and Lousã.

The circle had existed since its inception in 1914 of only two municipalities ( Freguesias ):
