Castel Bolognese

Castel Bolognese is a town with 9523 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ravenna in the Italian region Emilia -Romagna.

It lies between Imola and Faenza on the Via Emilia. Castel Bolognese is dominated by agriculture by surrounding vineyards and orchards.

It was founded in the late 14th century by the Senate of Bologna as an outpost for the defense of its own territory. By decree of Pope Pius VI suggested. the city of Ravenna in 1794. Under Napoléon Bonaparte Castel Bolognese was for a short time back to the province of Bologna and from 1814 now finally back to Ravenna.

Castel Bolognese is partner since 2007 Municipality of Abtsgmuend, Ostalb, Baden- Württemberg.
