Castelfiorentino

Castel Fiorentino is a town with 17,626 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in Tuscany and belongs to the province of Florence.

Geography

The village is located about 30 km southwest of the city of Florence to the Elsa and on the Via Francigena.

The districts include Cambiano, Castelnuovo d' Elsa, Coiano, Dogana, Granaiolo and Petrazzi.

The neighboring municipalities are Certaldo, Empoli, Gambassi Terme, Montaione, Montespertoli and San Miniato (PI).

History

Until 1149 it was known as Castel Vecchio. The Romans called this place Timignano.
