Castelmassa

Castel Massa is a Northeast Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2473 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Rovigo in Veneto. The municipality is situated approximately 38 km west-southwest of Rovigo on the Po and directly borders the province of Mantua ( Lombardy ). Castel Massa is part of Transpadana Ferrarese.

History

938 the village was first mentioned in a document. Due to its location at the crossroads of ancient roads should be probably an earlier settlement. In 1017 the town was under the rule of the Benedictine Abbey of Nonantola. The property was passed in 1101 to the Bishop of Ferrara over.
