Castelseprio (comune)

Castelseprio is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1286 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Varese, in the Lombardy region. The municipality is situated approximately 10.5 kilometers south-southeast of Varese in the Olona. The western border is the community Tenore.

History

Castelseprio belongs to an important archaeological site in northern Italy with European significance. The church of Santa Maria foris portas, which belongs to the monastery of Torba, has its origins in the 7th / 8th Century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage " The Longobards in Italy, Places of Power ( 568-774 AD) ".
