Casteltermini

Castel Termini is a city in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily, with 8381 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Castel Termini is located 47 km north of Agrigento. The main activities are the production of salt and agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Acquaviva Platani (CL ), Aragona, Cammarata, Campofranco (CL ), San Biagio Platani, Sant ' Angelo Muxaro Santo Stefano Quisquina and Sutera (CL).

History

There was the Arab village Chiudia At the site of the present town. The present town was founded in 1629 by G. Vincenzo Maria Termini.

Attractions

The Church on Cathedral Square dates from the 17th century, it was significantly rebuilt in the 19th century. The church has three naves and contains ancient paintings. The church of Sant 'Antonio di Padova was built in 1645. Here and in the church of SS Cosma e Damiano, built in 1767, found no services are held longer. The San Giuseppe church from the 17th century is located on Via Umberto I.

Events

On the fourth Sunday in May, the Sagra del Tataratà, even Festa di Santa Croce ( Feast of the Holy Cross ) called instead. The procession is accompanied by saber- wielding horsemen and drumming in period costumes.

On the last Sunday in August, the town of La festa di San Calogero organized. Saint Calogero is carried through the city in a procession and many believers walk barefoot with, so that their requests will be answered. After the procession are many fires, which were set up for the feast, distributed free spaghetti.
