Casterman

Casterman is on comics and children's literature specialist publisher based in Tournai, Belgium.

Casterman, founded in 1780, was originally a printing and publishing company. 1934 took over Casterman publishing the comic book series The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin ) by the magazine supplement Le Petit Vingtième from The Cigars of the Pharaoh, the fourth album of the series. From 1942 Casterman published revised and colorized versions of the earlier albums.

A little later, strengthened by the success of the comics by Hergé, Casterman brought out a new series of other authors such as Jacques Martin, François Craenhals or Carla and Vilhelm Hansen. Since 1954 Casterman also published children's books, including the successful Martine Books by Marcel Marlier.

In an effort to appeal to a more mature audience, Casterman decided in 1973 to publish the first albums of the series Corto Maltese Italian author Hugo Pratt. In addition, from 1978 Castermans monthly magazine published (à suivre ), which influenced the new upsurge of comics in the 1990s. (à suivre ) was discontinued in 1997.

Casterman now belongs to the publishing group Flammarion.
