Casti connubii

Fifty years after the encyclical Arcanum divinae sapientiae by Pope Leo XIII. published Pope Pius XI. December 31, 1930, the encyclical Casti connubii. It is subtitled: On Christian Marriage in respect of the current living conditions and needs of the family and society and on the errors and abuses in this regard existing.

On the prevention

In the encyclical, he writes about the conjugal act, that this was intended by its very nature only for the procreation of offspring. The prevention is therefore an immoral behavior, even when taking place the marital intercourse and contraceptive measures would used. Since, however, would now departed from this rule, it was the task of the Catholic Church to defend the teachings ... Every sin that is committed in relation to the progeny, in a sense is also a sin against conjugal faith, since these two doses has been used by God ...

About the " mixed marriage"

The Pope expressly prohibits the inter-denominational and inter- religious marriage and justified this by saying that marriages between different faiths will strictly forbidden by the Church, because if a marriage portion from the faith waste, the education of children is not secured to a Catholic faith. Exceptions are to be permitted only after strict examination and should remain an exception. Since mixed marriages also is a danger that the children be removed from the faith, would produced from such marriages, damage to the common faith.

The natural community

Pius XI. insists that family community not only mean mutual assistance. You must also - and primarily - seek to ensure that the husband had to help each other to make the inner man more and more and to accomplish. So they should always make greater progress through their life together in the virtues, especially in the true God and love of neighbor grow. The inherent confidence that the spouses should give each other up, so there is also growing in virtue and the sanctity of marriage.

On Marriage and Family

Marriage and family are from the perspective of the encyclical divine institutions and regarded Pius XI. in this encyclical the family as a divine institution, and declares that from the marriage is clear the family. The family arises through the expression of love in the consummation of the marriage, an act that is always at the same time uniting ( love) and convincing ( life ) is. If, in the conjugal act either unifying or compelling dimension is missing, follow the disintegration of the marriage and, of necessity, of the family.
