Castilenti

Castilenti is a municipality with 1525 inhabitants and is located near Castiglione Messer Raimondo and Montefino in the Italian province of Teramo. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) include Villa San Romualdo and Casa Bianca.

The neighboring municipalities are: Atri, Castiglione Messer Raimondo, Elice, Montefino and penne.

The municipality is situated approximately 38 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo and 24 km from the Adriatic coast.

History

The origins of the community extend to pre-Roman times. It was unearthed from pre-Christian times in the fraction Casabianca a necropolis. The archaeologists found on grave goods such as ceramics, bronze and coins. During the Roman era several settlements have been built in the area. From this time the ruins of a Roman villa and a cemetery remain. In the Middle Ages, several churches and a fort were built.

Economy

In recent years, emerged in the community, some industrial and craft enterprises, which employ many people. The areas in question are varied. There are textile company, metal, cement and furniture factories.

In addition to industrial production, agricultural production remains one of a major industry of the village. The agricultural area is about 1500 hectares. It is preferred that produces wine, olive and fruit.
