Castilleja de la Cuesta

Castilleja de la Cuesta is a city in 5 km distance from Sevilla, in the province of Andalusia, Spain.

The city is very old; their foundation year is disputed. It is likely that it was at the first settlers to Roman. Proven later settled Arabs in this place.

When Ferdinand III. in 1248 conquered the territory, he called the place Alixar. However, this name could not talk. Over time, the name Castilleja de la Cuesta prevailed.

A famous visitor was Hernán Cortés, he died in the city on December 2, 1547.
