Castle of Castellano

Castle Castellano (Italian Castello di Castellano ) is a castle converted to the former castle in Castellano, in the municipality of Villa Lagarina in the Italian province of Trento.

History

The cubic building with watchtower dominated since the 12th century the road from the valley towards Cei. The hill fort was built on a hill and was protected on three sides by embankments and slopes. From this location to the Adige Valley had control. Middle of the 13th century the castle was conquered by the Castelbarcos.

1456 was the ownership of the Earl Lodron that transformed him into a stately residence and adorned with frescoes. Even today, the castle on some medieval elements, such as the crenellated curtain wall.

The castle is privately owned and can only be visited by appointment with the owner.
