Castle of Chinchilla

The Castillo de Chinchilla de Montearagón is a castle in Chinchilla de Montearagón, a community about 280 kilometers south-east of Madrid in the province of Albacete the autonomous region of Castilla -La Mancha (Spain ), which was built in the 15th century. The castle on a steep cliff above the village is a protected monument.

History

Already at the time of the Moors was a castle on the widely visible rocks. After the recapture in 1449 it was by Juan Pacheco, Marquis of Villena, bought and rebuilt in the following years. Cesare Borgia was some time ( probably 1504/ 05) as a prisoner in the castle, which served for several centuries as a prison.

Today there are still remains of the ramparts and rebuilt in the 19th century the main tower and the gates Diablos and Tiradores to see.
