Castle of Sant'Aniceto

The Castello di Sant'Aniceto (also Castello San Niceto ) is a ruined castle in Motta San Giovanni in the province of Reggio Calabria in Calabria. The castle is located at an altitude of 670 m s.l.m.

The Regulation of Charles I of Anjou on the payment of the fort crews and repair the forts of 1269 was first mentioned castrum S. Niceti. Also in the lists of 1275 and 1282, the castle is mentioned. The crew of the castle, which was under direct royal administration, consisted of a steward and ten servientes. The castle is built irregularly. The door system consists of two square towers. On the long sides of the castle is a defensive wall. It has a height of about 3 to 3.5 meters and encloses an open space, the outer bailey. Here the knights and their servants lived in tents. The bailey is completed on the west by a tower castle. Further west of the palace, a residence. The castle has an area of ​​about 180 meters in length and 55 meters in width.
