Castle Rock [ kæsl ɹɑk ] is the county seat of Douglas County in the U.S. state of Colorado. With 48,231 inhabitants ( 2010) Castle Rock is behind Highlands Ranch 's second-largest city in Douglas County and is located in Colorado 19th in total. The city is run as a Home Rule Municipality.

History

Castle Rock was founded in 1874 as the eastern border of Douglas County was neugezogen in its present location. Castle Rock was then chosen for its central position as the County Seat.
